Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Soko Kiganjani collects, why, and the choices you have. Soko Kiganjani is a marketplace that connects buyers and sellers in Tanzania: buyers contact sellers on WhatsApp, and we do not take payments.

  1. 1. What we collect

    Account details: your name, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash that cannot be read back). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and Google account ID, never your Google password.

    Seller details: shop name, description, location, WhatsApp number, logo, and product listings with their photos.

    Activity: products you save, reviews and reports you send, and when you open a seller's WhatsApp link (counted as a lead for that seller).

    Technical data: your IP address, to limit abuse and count visits without identifying you, and, if you turn on alerts, your device's notification subscription.

  2. 2. How we use it

    To run your account and keep it secure; to show shops and listings to buyers; to connect buyers with sellers on WhatsApp; to send the emails you need (confirming your email, password resets, security notices) and the alerts you turn on; to review listings, handle reports and prevent fraud; and to show sellers totals about their own shop.

    We do not sell your personal information and we do not show third-party advertising.

  3. 3. What others can see

    A seller's shop name, description, location, listings and reviews are public. A seller's WhatsApp number is given only to signed-in users who choose to contact them. Your email address is never shown publicly. Reviews show the reviewer's name.

  4. 4. Services we use

    We use trusted providers to run the marketplace: Vercel and Render (hosting), Neon (database), Cloudinary (images and videos), Brevo (email), Google (optional sign-in) and your browser's push service (alerts). They process data only to provide their service to us. Some of them store data outside Tanzania.

  5. 5. Cookies

    We use a few essential cookies: one keeps you signed in, one remembers your language, one your theme (light or dark), and a short-lived one protects Google sign-in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

  6. 6. How long we keep it

    We keep your account information while your account exists. Deleted listings and reviews stay in a trash for up to 90 days so they can be restored, then they are erased together with their photos. Security records may be kept longer where needed to prevent abuse.

  7. 7. Your choices and rights

    You can update your profile and shop at any time and turn alerts off. You can also ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account. These rights follow Tanzania's Personal Data Protection Act, 2022. To make a request, contact us using the address below.

  8. 8. Children

    Soko Kiganjani is not meant for children under 18. Sellers must be adults.

  9. 9. Changes to this policy

    If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
